Kuwaiti newspapers: Former Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak was held in pretrial detention

Three local Kuwaiti newspapers said today, Tuesday, that the Kuwaiti Cabinet had ordered the detention of Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, former prime minister and a member of the ruling family, in custody in a case related to the misuse of army funds.

Al-Rai and Al-Jarida newspapers said that Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak and Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah, the former Minister of Defense and Interior, who was also accused in the same case, rejected the accusations against them.

Al-Jarida and Al-Qabs newspapers reported that the court also rejected a request to release Jarrah, who is also a member of the ruling family in the Gulf state.

The court also decided to prohibit publication of the case at the request of Al-Mubarak and Jarrah, and set April 27 as the date for the next session.

The case, known as the Army Fund, which is concerned with providing aid to Kuwaiti army personnel, gained momentum in Kuwait after it was announced for the first time by former Defense Minister Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah in 2019 and said that he referred it to the Public Prosecution.
