The gathering of professionals in Sudan calls for breaking the emergency: Go out in the evening

As soon as the head of the dissolved Sovereign Council in Sudan, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, announced the dissolution of the government and the imposition of a state of emergency, the Sudanese Professionals Association called for a response to those decisions, by “breaking” the state of emergency and declaring general disobedience.

In a statement posted on his Facebook account, he also called for "breaking the state of emergency through more crowds and evening rallies, as the first practical response to Al-Burhan's decisions, and to confirm that they are not implementable, as he put it."

In addition, he accused Al-Burhan of detaching from reality, threatening to "increase the ferocity of the resistance and the unity of the street." He considered that the statements of the head of the Sovereign Council removed "all illusions of partnership and dropped the fig leaf."

"seizing power"

For its part, the Sudanese Ministry of Culture and Information considered what took place a "military coup and the seizure of power," as it put it.

And it said in a statement on its Facebook page that Al-Burhan announced "the seizure of power through a military coup."

This came after Al-Burhan announced, in a televised speech broadcast on state television earlier today, the dissolution of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and the government, the dismissal of state governors and the freezing of the work of the Dismantling Empowerment Committee, with the declaration of a state of emergency across the country.

At dawn, the capital, Khartoum, witnessed a campaign of arrests that targeted several ministers and officials in the government headed by Abdullah Hamdok, in addition to leaders in several parties and the Forces for Freedom and Change.

It is noteworthy that the country has lived, since last September, with an escalating tension between the military and civilian components that have shared the transitional rule since 2019.
