The United Nations welcomes the Sudan agreement and stresses support for the transitional phase

The United Nations Integrated Mission to Support the Transitional Phase in Sudan (UNITAMS) welcomed the initial declaration of a consensus to resolve the constitutional and political crisis that was threatening the stability of Sudan.

According to a statement by the United Nations Information Center, UNITAMS stressed the need to protect the constitutional order to preserve the basic freedoms of political action, freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.

The UN mission stressed that transition partners will need to "urgently address outstanding issues to complete the political transition in an inclusive manner, while respecting human rights and the rule of law."

She called on all parties to the political process in Sudan to join the voices of youth to meet the demands of the Sudanese people, stressing the need to preserve the meaningful participation of women and advance their hard-earned rights and their role in democratic transformation.
